How Does Service Relate to Learning?
I think service relates to learning in a lot of ways. When you take time out of your day to help someone else, aren't you learning more about that person? Are you not learning how to better yourself as a person by volunteering your time to help someone else? I think service, whether it be volunteering with a charity or even volunteering at your church, is a good way to learn more about yourself and the other people volunteering with you and the people you are helping. Service relates to learning in the sense that it helps you learn more about what it takes emotionally to become a good volunteer. There can be people who donate their time just to add it to their resumé and there are people who volunteer their time because the charity or cause they are helping is very close to their hearts. Someone running a marathon for breast cancer research most likely knows someone that has the disease. I think service relates to learning in the sense that donating your time to something that is productive and helpful to a lot of people teaches you to empathize with the people you are helping. That someone you are talking to and helping can easily be a friend of yours or someone in your family, because that person is someone's friend, is someone's family member, who is need of your help. You have the opportunity to help, so why don't you?
